JYF Learn About Living as a Blind Person

While the older youth at Forest Park were experiencing what it’s like living as a homeless person over the weekend, the JYF youth were also getting to find out what it’s like to live in someone else’s shoes as they enjoyed a presentation about living with blindness from one of our very own who is blind.  The kids received Braille cards and their name in Braille and got to see a demonstration of a label reader and color reader which they learned helps to make life easier when you are blind.  The kids were all able to ask plenty of questions and got to learn how to properly lead a blind person.  They all also enjoyed getting to pet Kato, the guide dog!  Finally, the kids were all given a little “homework” to go home and try to complete some of their daily tasks blindfolded which they were looking forward to trying.  It was an enlightening discussion and the kids all enjoyed learning about how life can be different for others yet we can all still essentially be the same!
